Queen of Swaziland, Her Royal Highness Queen LaMatsebula, visited Limkokwing University flagship campus in Cyberjaya on 7th July

HRH Queen LaMatsebula was accompanied by her entourage, including Swaziland’s senior government officials, namely, Education Minister Busie Dlamini, Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Protocol Officer Sebentile Dlamini, Justice Minister Buhle Magongo, as well as High Commission First Secretary Nombulelo Shongwe. They were welcomed by international students who were clad in their traditional attires that represented the multiculturalism of the Limkokwing community comprising students from 150 nations.

HRH Queen LaMatsebula and her entourage were taken on a campus tour to be familiarised with the University ecosystem. The Queen was impressed by the Branding Gallery, a display of students’ original creative design for Malaysia’s local brands, as well as Presidential Library, a showcase of projects done by Limkokwing’s founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Lim Kok Wing.

Swazi student, Sandzisiwe Dlamini, who had just obtained her postgraduate degree in Human Resources, appreciated the Queen’s official visit to the campus.

“Being one of the most influential individuals in Swaziland, this visit benefits Swazi students here and Swaziland campus. It shows the University and Swaziland’s close relationship, as well as Her Royal Highness’s continuous support on both parties’ academic collaborations. It opens up even more opportunities between the two.”

Dlamini continued, “Most importantly, it encourages Swazi students to participate, while incorporating creativity and innovation in it.”

She went on to say that the visit would also educate Limkokwing’s international community on Swazi cultures.

The HRH Queen LaMatsebula’s visit to Limkokwing is a way to maintain relationship between Swaziland and the University, who had previously established a campus in Swaziland’s capital city of Mbabane in early 2010.

Third and final semester students of the Foundation in Communication students of the Faculty of Communications, Media and Broadcasting (FCMB) were given the task of organising a showcase featuring Malacca and its many attractions in the Streets of Straits exhibition on 7 July.

Students in five groups produced collaborated pieces of eleven 4x4ft canvasses, that decked Courtyard 3 of Limkokwing University in a stretch of 40ft by 4ft; all linked to one another, creatively illustrating the highlights of Malacca using a variety of colours, textures and expressions as well as different types of mediums.

The exhibition also displayed other creative and innovative promotional items designed by students such as T-shirts, umbrellas, presentation boards and button badges, all on the theme of Malacca. The students’ work were then evaluated by the public via evaluation sheets handed out to attendees.

“They’re high in potential and they can definitely achieve wonders if they set their mind to it,” said program leader and creative studies lecturer Muhammad Husein.

“They managed to overcome obstacles and they’re very young with a lot to learn so given those circumstances and seeing as how this is their first exhibition, they did good,” he added.

Aseer Somejee of Pakistan, a final semester student who came up with a beautiful impression of the St Paul church, said “I’ve learnt a lot about accepting differences and understanding the perspective of others, through this coursework.”

His classmate, 19 year-old Zulaikha from Malaysia, who worked on a replica of the Chen Hoon Teng temple with her group members, said that The Streets of Straits was challenging, and that it triggered their creativity, as well as helped realise potentials they never thought they had.

She also felt that the overall semester drove them to appreciate Malacca in all its cultural glory, all the more.

Jash Sehgal from another group, liked how the exposure to history and culture that the Global Campus provided, allowed him to better understand the cultural diversity and unity of Malaysia, in general.

“The Global Campus was great as I learnt about how crucial the business entrepots are to forming relationships and I now understand the Malaysian culture better,” said the 17 year old from India.

Jonathan Nwachukwu, an Architecutre and Design student who visited the exhibition, said that it was good how students are challenged to recreate something similar to what they see.

“It’s amazing! What they’ve created makes us feel like we’re there even though we’re not and it does indeed feel like walking through the straits, in these 40 feet,” he said.

The exhibition was aimed at promoting Malacca as a state rich in culture and students were required to present and advertise their understandings and findings from their first hand experiences during their 5-day study trip to Malacca at the start of their semester.

The Malacca Global Campus is a Limkokwing University initiative to promote the appreciation of the culture and heritage in Malaysia as well as to allow students to experience studying in a different environment; the Limkokwing Malacca campus.

Limkokwing University strives to nurture its students’ creativity and innovation, and celebrate their talents through exhibitions, fashion shows, art performances, industry talks, and many more to ensure students that graduate are experienced and industry ready.

A total of 64 Korean students from Korea Tourism College, Kaywon School of Arts & Design and Dong Kang College received their certificates from Limkokwing University after completing a 4-week comprehensive Summer Camp on July 24th.

The programme was designed to teach basic English skills and promote cross-cultural interaction to encourage the students’ personal development and cultural tolerance.

Students were brought to iconic places in Malaysia like Bukit Bintang, Batu Caves and Malacca to give them an insight into the rich Malaysian culture. This experience allowed the students to build their cultural understanding, as they hail from a mono-cultured society where such opportunities are hardly possible.

Kim Nam Hui from Dong Kang College felt that coming to Limkokwing University is one-of-a-kind experience because it’s different from the universities in his country.

“There are so many different cultures to observe and learn from. I had made friends from around the world during my stay here at this beautiful country,” he added.

Many of the Korean students faced difficulties adapting to the various cultural differences they faced in Malaysia.

“When I first came to Malaysia, everything surprised me. The food, people, culture and especially the weather,” exclaimed Jeong Eun Seon from Kaywon School of Arts & Design.

However, she learned to adapt herself to the Malaysian environment and improve her English skills throughout her stay in Malaysia. She thanked her teacher for helping her cope with the language barrier and cultural differences.

The ISO 9001:2008 certificate for Limkokwing Executive Leadership College

LELC offers specially tailored courses in leadership, entrepreneurship, finance and information technology. Through LELC, student are engaged in the creation of new businesses through industry-relevant collaboration with some of the world’s most successful brands, such as Nestle, L’Oreal, Shu Uemura, Lancome, Sony Ericsson, to name a few. These are businesses that provide avenues for students to practise their skills and perhaps venture into franchise agreements to open these outlets elsewhere in the country or overseas.

The ISO 9001:2008 standard sets out the criteria for a quality management system and it is the most widely used and internationally-recognised framework for good quality management in an organisation.

To become certified as ISO 9001:2008 compliant, LELC underwent an evaluation process that included quality management system development, a management system documentation review, pre-audit, initial assessment, and clearance of non-conformances, all of which work to identify corrective actions that eliminate non-conformances in the quality management system.

After a successful comprehensive audit by Guardian Independent Certification Limited, LELC received its ISO 9001:2008 certificate of registration on 20 July 2015.

Achieving ISO 9001:2008 certification clearly demonstrates LELC’s commitment in supporting Limkokwing University with quality products. With this certification, Limkokwing’s students can be confident that the University is dedicated to maintain the highest efficiency and responsiveness possible in achieving its ultimate goal – guaranteed student satisfaction.
